About Claire
Claire Alice McManus is a board certified acupuncturist by the NCCAOM and licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. Claire holds a Bachelor's degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and a Master's degree from the New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown, Massachusetts. Since 2001, Claire has worked as both a Senior and Supervising Research Acupuncturist on large randomized controlled trials at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Cambridge Hospital. These research trials were coordinated by the Osher Institute at Harvard Medical School, were funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and focused on acupuncture's effect on Repetitive Strain Injuries to the arm and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Until 2005 Claire was a staff acupuncturist with Pathways to Wellness, the country's largest public health acupuncture clinic. Claire is currently affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston. Her current work with researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital uses fMRI brain imaging to study the effect of acupuncture on carpal tunnel syndrome and pain. Claire has lectured nationally and internationally on East Asian Medicine, has been featured in the Boston Globe, The West Roxbury Transcript and Bulletin newspapers, and has been a featured radio guest on WBCN's Boston Sunday Review. Claire is the author of several articles related to acupuncture research methodology recently published in North American and European journals.
